Urbi SDK 2.1 Is Now Completely Open Source

Gostai, a company that specializes in robotics software has announced that it is opening up its Urbi operating system. Urbi is a robotics operating system used by a number of very well-known, commercial robots. The company already shared the component architecture and the libraries under an open-source license and will now do the same for the Urbi kernel. Urbi is being released under an Affero GNU GPL v3 license.
“Going open source with a GNU GPL compatible license is the best way to make sure that Urbi will always be available freely for everyone to use, check and share, while maintaining a dual licensing model providing support and advanced features for commercial partners. Coming from an academic research lab, Gostai has always believed in the open-source model and sharing of innovation. It has been a long time since we worked to prepare Urbi for that move, and now it's ready!,” Jean-Christophe Baillie, Gostai’s Founder and CEO, announced in a statement.

Clonezilla Live 1.2.5-35 Comes with Linux Kernel 2.6.32-17

The release of Clonezilla Live 1.2.5-35 has been announced. The newest version of the live CD distribution comes with an upgraded underlying operating system, Debian Sid, an updated kernel and other changes.

“This release of Clonezilla live (1.2.5-35) includes major enhancements, changes and bug fixes... The underlying GNU/Linux operating system was upgraded. This release is based on the Debian Sid repository (as of 2010/Jul/20),” Steven Shiau wrote in the official announcement.
“Default to use VGA 800x600 for Clonezilla live. Since most of the netbook does not support 1024x768, and 800x600 is the common one for most of the computers, and it's good enough for Clonezilla live. Thanks for swdotnet for suggesting this,” he added.

Linux Mint 9 Xfce RC Is Here!

The Linux Mint team is getting ready to complete the latest batch of releases. The standard Gnome-based Linux Mint 9 was released about two months ago and the LXDE version was made available recently. The Xfce version is not quite ready but the team has put out a Linux Mint 9 Xfce release candidate. Besides the new features available across all of the Linux 9 flavours, Linux Mint 9 Xfce RC comes with a few tweaks for Thunar, the default file manager, as well as updated packages specific to the Xfce desktop environment.

KDE SC 4.5 RC2 Available for Download

The second release candidate of the upcoming KDE SC 4.5 has been released. The developers aren’t being very specific on updates, but you can expect KDE SC 4.5 RC2 to be better suited for regular use than the first release candidate. Other than bug fixes and patches, there shouldn’t be that many changes from RC1. If you haven’t given KDE SC 4.5 a try yet, there should be plenty of things to like over the previous versions like the new, consistent notification area and window tiling.
